Message from Mayor Lake
Workplace Tragedy Memorial Service
Council hosted its Annual Workplace Tragedy Memorial Service at Holroyd Gardens in Merrylands on Saturday 27 April. The service was held at the Wall of Memory at the former Goodlet and Smith Brickworks site to commemorate those who have been injured or tragically killed at work and those who have died as a result of a work-related illness. Sadly, 45 Australian workers have been killed at work this year, while thousands more suffer serious workplace injuries that may result in long-term injury or a more permanent disability. Everyone that goes to work has the right to return home safely and we will continue to advocate for the importance of work health and safety to make our workplaces safer.
Auburn Centre for Community’s Friendship Garden Renovation Project with Auburn Men’s Shed
The Friendship Garden at the Auburn Centre for Community was renovated with thanks to the help of volunteers from the Auburn Men’s Shed. Council worked with the Men’s Shed who meticulously measured the garden and assisted with obtaining necessary materials. Working alongside 20 volunteers from Mirvac Development, the Men’s Shed volunteers helped construct 26 garden beds. Their hands-on involvement and leadership significantly transformed the garden, making it more accessible to all community members and ready for the winter crop activities and harvesting.

Child Supervision Campaign
Council is rolling out a community education initiative called ‘Watchful Eyes Supervise: Keep Children Safe’ to help encourage parents to be mindful of supervising their children at Council’s Community Centres, Libraries, Swim Centre programs and events. Council is also reminding parents that children under 15 years cannot attend Council Swim Centres without adult supervision and children under 12 years need an adult to attend one of Council’s Libraries.
